Nepal held their nerve in a tense finish to defeat the Netherlands by 16 runs in the 77th match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 (2023–27) at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. The home side, led by a composed innings from Aarif Sheikh, defended a total of 236/9 to register their third win in four matches.
Aarif Sheikh Anchors Nepal’s Innings
Batting first after losing the toss, Nepal were off to a shaky start, losing both openers inside 7 overs. But middle-order stability came in the form of Aarif Sheikh, who scored a match-winning 84 off 85 balls, including 7 fours and 2 sixes. He was well supported by Bhim Sharki (35) and Rohit Paudel (35) during the rebuilding phase.
Nepal posted 236/9 in 50 overs, with late contributions from Nandan Yadav and the tail. Dutch pacer Paul van Meekeren was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4/58, while Michael Levitt impressed with 3/49 through his full quota.

Lamichhane and Yadav Seal the Win
Chasing a target of 237, the Netherlands looked promising at various stages but kept losing wickets at crucial intervals. Opener Michael Levitt scored a brisk 27, while Wesley Barresi (36) and Scott Edwards (30) tried to steady the ship.
Nepal’s bowlers, however, maintained pressure throughout. Sandeep Lamichhane struck key blows in the middle overs, finishing with 3/39, while Nandan Yadav delivered a standout performance with 3/39, including the important wickets of Klein, van der Merwe, and O’Dowd. Lalit Rajbanshi was economical and effective as well, taking 2/29 in his 10 overs.
Despite a fighting effort from the lower order, the Dutch were bowled out for 220 in 49.2 overs, falling short by 16 runs.
