Kathmandu, May 5, 2025 — Nepali cricket received a significant boost with the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) lifting the suspension imposed on all-rounder Aadil Ansari, following his clearance from the Kathmandu District Court and the International Cricket Council (ICC).
🏏 Background: Allegations and Arrest
Aadil Ansari, a promising fast-bowling all-rounder, was charged with spot-fixing during the inaugural Nepal T20 League, held from December 24, 2022, to January 11, 2023. The charges concerned his behavior in certain games where he was said to have bowled deliberate no-balls and wides, which raised suspicions of match manipulation. Nepal Police’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) detained Ansari on 23 January 2023, along with fellow cricketers Mehboob Alam and Nitesh Gupta, in connection with the case. They were later granted bail of NPR 300,000 each.
⚖️ Legal Proceedings and Acquittal
After over a year of court proceedings, the Kathmandu District Court, on March 25, 2024, acquitted Ansari and four other defendants for insufficient evidence. Judge Kamal Prasad Pokharel ruled that the charges could not be established beyond reasonable doubt.
✅ CAN’s Decision and ICC Clearance
Following the court’s verdict, CAN conducted internal reviews and coordinated with the ICC to assess Ansari’s eligibility to return to cricket. After completing all necessary formalities and receiving approval, CAN officially lifted Ansari’s suspension on May 5, 2025.

During his suspension, Ansari remained active by participating in various local leagues in India, maintaining his form and match fitness.
